Important Notice To Healthcare Offices

Effective August 5, 2003, all offices of medical doctors, chiropractic physicians, acupuncturists, podiatrists, dentists and physical therapists where massage therapy is administered (by licensed massage therapists) to patients will have to meet the licensure requirements for a massage establishment. Formerly, a board rule allowed massage therapists to provide services in these offices to patients of that office without obtaining a permit.

These offices need to license their facilities as soon as possible, to avoid being in violation of the new rule. A massage establishment permit cannot be issued until an application is completed and reviewed by the board staff, an inspection has been completed, and the permit applicant has met the inspection requirements.

A list of Frequently Asked Questions has been compiled. Other questions pertaining to this matter should be directed to (850) 488-0595.
